Life constantly throws challenges our way—at work, at home, and especially on bike tours. But did you know that the secret weapon to overcoming these challenges is already within you?
It’s positive self-talk.
The words we say to ourselves and how we treat ourselves shape our mindset and reality.
When I started my trip from Alaska to Argentina, I struggled with this. I was incredibly hard on myself, dealt with imposter syndrome, and focused on what I wasn’t achieving. I would criticize myself for not reaching certain destinations or for not enjoying things as much as I thought I should.
By the end, I learned to congratulate my body for its accomplishments and use positive reinforcements to get through tough days and to enhance great ones.
Positive self-talk boosts resilience. It helps you bounce back from setbacks, stay motivated, and keep pushing forward.
Start small. Replace "I can't" with "I can try."
Swap "I'm not good enough" with "I am improving every day." Encourage yourself as you would a friend.
Remember, resilience isn't just about enduring hard times—it's about thriving despite them. And it all starts with positive self-talk.
